Sun Safety
The purpose of this presentation is to make individuals aware of the risks of over exposure to the sun and what can be done to protect children and adults from the harmful effects of UV radiation. This presentation also discusses the signs and symptoms of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and what can be done to prevent these heat-related illnesses. (B)
Child Safety
Injuries are the leading cause of death for children in the United States. This presentation provides tips on keeping children safe from preventable injuries at home, at school, on playgrounds and around water. It discusses the role of the caregiver as teacher, supervisor and protector of young children. (A)
Heart Health
Heart disease is the number one killer of people over age 40 in the United States. The purpose of this course is to discuss preventable risk factors related to heart disease, to help individuals recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and to reinforce the importance of obtaining advanced medical help when these symptoms are present. (A)
Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) Demonstration
The purpose of this demonstration is to educate individuals about AED’s, and the lifesaving benefits of learning to use the AED. The cardiac chain of survival will be discussed and use of an AED will be demonstrated. Information on how to obtain an AED and the importance of taking a formal training course is also included. (A)
