National AgenciesFollowing is a list of national agencies that the Greater Kansas City Chapter works with to assist people requiring additional help or service:
American Red Cross a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Federal Emergency Management Assistance (FEMA) has a Kansas City office and is an independent agency of the federal government. It works to help people prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from natural disasters.
Honor Society of Nursing features Disaster Preparedness and Response for Nurses.
National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) is the international leader in the facilitation of unrelated marrow and blood stem cell transplantation. A non-profit organization based in Minneapolis, Minn., the NMDP facilitates unrelated marrow and blood stem cell transplants for patients with life-threatening diseases who do not have matching donors in their families.
National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster helps organize the work of volunteer organizations responding to a disaster. The American Red Cross and its branch offices are member organizations.
Networkforgood.org is the Internet's leading charitable resource—an e-philanthropy site where individuals can donate, volunteer and get involved with the issues they care about. The organization's goal is to connect people to charities via the Internet—using the virtual world to deliver real resources to nonprofits and communities.
Second Harvest has a network of 188 regional food banks that serves all 50 states and Puerto Rico, and distributes more than one billion pounds of donated food and grocery product annually.
United Network for Organ Sharing has a Kansas City branch and coordinates the UNOS Organ Center, where organ donors are matched to waiting recipients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
