Length: 15 to 45 minutes
Disaster Preparedness
Are you prepared if a disaster should occur? This informative presentation provides students with valuable disaster preparedness guidelines. Included is a discussion on what types of disasters can occur, warning signals that alert people to disasters and how to stay safe during and after a disaster through preparation. Learn how to set up a communication and escape plan, as well as how to put together a disaster supply kit.
Fire Safety
This presentation provides youths with valuable fire safety information, including common causes of fires in the home, how to prepare and prevent a fire and what to do if a fire occurs. Learn how to set up a family fire escape plan and improve your ability to get out of a fire alive.
Tornado Safety
Students need to know what to do if a tornado occurs in their community. This presentation includes discussion on how tornadoes form, warning signals that alert people to tornado threats, and how to stay safe during and after a tornado through preparation. Learn what to do in the event of a tornado watch or warning and how to set up a Family Disaster Plan for tornadoes.
Thunderstorm and Lightning Safety
Do you know what to do in a thunderstorm and/or around lightning? This presentation provides students with valuable thunderstorm and lightning safety information. This includes a discussion on the different dangers of thunderstorms, warning signals that alert people to thunderstorm threats, and how to stay safe during and after a thunderstorm through preparation. Learn what to do in the event of a thunderstorm and how to put together a disaster supply kit.
Floods and Flash Floods Safety
Knowing what to do when floods and flash floods arise could help to save a life. This presentation, geared toward students, provides valuable flood and flash flood safety information. Items discussed cover the different types of floods, warning signals that alert people to flood threats, and how to stay safe during and after a flood through preparation. Learn what to do in the event of a flood or flash flood watch and warning, and how to set up a family disaster plan for floods.
Earthquake Safety
This presentation includes a discussion for students on what earthquakes are what causes them, and how to stay safe during and after an earthquake through preparation. Students will also learn how to help protect their families home.
Heat Wave Safety
Learn valuable heat wave safety information including discussion on what heat waves are extreme heat health risks and how to stay safe during and after a heat wave through preparation. Information will be provided on how to treat and respond to heat-related illness, such as heat stroke. Heat wave hazards in general are also discussed.
Winter Storm Safety
Are you prepared to deal with a winter storm? This presentation provides youths with valuable winter storm safety information including what winter storms are, warning signals that alert people to winter weather threats and how to stay safe during and after a winter storm through preparation. Learn how to improve your understanding of the hazards associated with winter weather and how to put together a family disaster supply kit.
Hurricane Safety
Students who are involved with this presentation will learn what hurricanes are, warning signals that alert people to hurricane threats, hazards associated with hurricanes and how to stay safe during and after a hurricane through preparation.
Calling 911
This presentation allows students to learn the importance of knowing when and how to call 911. Situations discussed are when and when not to call, what one should say, and how important it is not to hang up until told to do so. Also covered is why it is important to have a list of emergency numbers by the phone, what to do if there is no access to a phone, and emergency services agencies one could go to for help in various emergencies.
