The Genevieve Byrne Speaker Series

The American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City and this year’s presenting sponsor, the Harry Portman Charitable Trust, UMB Bank n.a., Corporate Trustee, invite you to join us at the ninth annual Genevieve Byrne Speaker Series at the Folly Theater on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008. The event promises to be another informative, intimate and entertaining evening.

Last year, George Stephanopoulos, of ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” entertained nearly 700 guests with his extensive knowledge of political affairs. Combined with the help of many charitable sponsors and donors, we raised more than $240,000.

Since its founding in 2000, The Genevieve Byrne Speaker Series has raised nearly a million dollars for the Red Cross. Because of the generosity of our benefactors, we have been able to respond to over 520 local emergencies, to assist nearly 1,000 military families, and to provide more than 28,000 people with the training to save lives in 2007.

The series’ name honors an exceptionally loyal Red Cross volunteer, Ms. Genevieve Byrne. Ms. Byrne devoted nearly two decades to volunteer work and provided years of financial support that continued even after her death in the form of a generous bequest.

In honoring Ms. Byrne, we pay tribute to the thousands of volunteers who, like her, have chosen to serve others through the Red Cross.
