Red Cross Day

The Kansas City Power and Light District is using the kickoff of its much-anticipated Spring Extravaganza to help victims of the May 2 tornado disaster through the American Red Cross.

The District has named Friday, May 16, Red Cross Day, and Red Cross volunteers will be on hand with donation buckets from noon until late evening. All funds collected will go directly to aid the tornado relief effort here at home. The Red Cross estimates the cost of the disaster relief effort will exceed $50,000.

Legendary bands Three Dog Night and Dr. Hook will entertain the crowd during the free concert presented by Kansas City Power & Light, making it the perfect opportunity for concertgoers to change the lives of their neighbors by making a donation to the Red Cross. The event begins at 7 p.m.

The District has also selected the Red Cross of Greater Kansas City as its first key charitable partner for the 2008 concert series. The District will partner with the Red Cross for its 15-week Bud Light Hot Country Nights series beginning May 29 with country supers stars, Dierks Bentley. All concerts will be held at the KC Live! Stage within the fantastic covered courtyard at 14th and Grand in Downtown Kansas City.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. These donations enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disasters. The Red Cross honors donor intent.
