Red Cross announces new speaker for event
KANSAS CITY, Mo – The American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City has secured a new speaker for its fund-raising event the Genevieve Byrne Speaker Series.

David Brooks, bi-weekly Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times, will serve as the speaker after original speaker, Tony Snow, passed away. David Brooks is a weekly political commentator on NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and a regular commentator on NPR. He is also the author of New York Times best seller, Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There.

David Brooks is a bi-weekly Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times.“We were saddened by the news of the death of Tony Snow,” said Red Cross Special Events Coordinator Courtney Johanning. “Anticipation of Tony's appearance generated great interest and excitement. Although it was a difficult task to find a new speaker, the Chapter is pleased that the event will continue.”

The Genevieve Byrne Speaker Series is a major annual fund raiser for the American Red Cross. This event is vital to the Red Cross as it funds local operations, and allows staff and volunteers to respond to local disaster including house fires and tornadoes, and provide life-saving training to others. The Red Cross appreciates the continued support of this event.

The event will start at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Folly Theater.
