The American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City deploys 8 more volunteers to fire-ravaged Ca.

One volunteer is the wife of a man who was deployed on Monday
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As fires continue to burn homes and threaten lives in southern Ca., more metro-area American Red Cross volunteers are answering the call to assist with the relief effort.

Thursday, the Greater Kansas City Chapter deployed eight more volunteers to assist with various work such as sheltering, feeding, mental health and casework.

One of those heading west is Nancy McSweeney, the wife of Bob McSweeney who was the first Kansas City chapter volunteer to be deployed on Tuesday. Bob is working as a shelter manager at a San Diego County-run shelter in Del Mar.

Nancy is flying out of Kansas City International Airport at 7:10 p.m. tonight. The other seven will be leaving Friday morning.

This deployment brings the total number of Red Cross volunteers from both the Kansas City and Wyandotte chapters in California to 17.

There are two emergency response vehicles and one emergency communications vehicle en route.
