After nearly two weeks in California metro Red Cross volunteers return home

Kansas City, Mo. - Volunteers from the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross have returned home after being deployed to southern California to help with fire-relief efforts.

Sherri Odell and Donna Terry drove an emergency response vehicle through the fire ravaged Arrow Head Mountains delivering prepared food, snacks and water.

Bob McSweeney and Joe Mouton worked in mass care while Judy Oakley, Linda Odom, Nancy Fonville, Nancy McSweeney, Rebecca Nafzinger and Harold Green performed as caseworkers. Barry Kramer provided mental health services and John Hamilton did damage assessment.

Craig Schley and Jerry Gorrell manned the Emergency Communications Response Vehicle from the Kansas City Chapter.

Jan Falconer was part of the newly created Financial Disaster Response Team. That team made sure that financial controls were being followed.

Denise Pierce, of the Wyandotte County Chapter, and Marshall Davis, of the Greater Kansas City Chapter, provided assistance with the Wyandotte County Emergency Response Vehicle.

Our local response to this national disaster emphasizes that the American Red Cross is indeed one Red Cross.
