Red Cross workers deployed to tornado-ravaged South

More volunteers are on standby
KANSAS CITY, Mo – The Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross has been asked to send volunteers to assist with the disaster relief effort down south after a series of powerful storms ripped through Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.

Two volunteers are driving the Kansas City-based Emergency Communications Response Vehicle to Arkansas where it will be used to maintain cell phone, satellite, internet and radio communications as well as provide power to buildings. They are expected to stay a week, but that could change depending on the need.

Other volunteers have been asked to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
