Red Cross Provides Aid to Residents Affected by Late-Night Disaster
After opening a shelter early Wednesday morning to accommodate 16 to 20 fire evacuees, the Red Cross shut down the facility at Broadway Baptist Church, 3931 Washington St., Kansas City, Mo. Eight residents of Alcazar Apartments, 3906 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City, Mo., spent the night in the shelter after a nine-unit apartment fire caused unsafe living conditions in their residency.
Throughout the disaster, Red Cross personnel offered snacks and water to emergency service workers and affected residents.
This was only the beginning of the assistance the Red Cross will offer the affected residents. As part of the Red Cross mission to help families rebuild their lives, caseworkers will continue to communicate with victims. Based on a formula of need, other assistance can be made available, including funds to help with permanent housing, replacement furniture, medicine and other needs.
