American Red Cross announces Rock and Roll Up Your Sleeves Campaign to increase blood donations during summer months Each donor gets a chance to win a platinum record from legendary rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd The American Red Cross is offering a special gift to metro residents who “give the gift of life” this summer. During May and June, blood donors at select Red Cross blood drives will receive a special rocker-style T-shirt and the opportunity to win an authentic Lynyrd Skynyrd platinum album. The “Rock and Roll up Your Sleeves” campaign is designed to encourage donations in the summer, a time when people often forget to give. In recent years, summer months have been particularly difficult on the community’s blood supply. “It doesn’t matter if you love Elvis, download hip-hop to an I-pod or sing in the shower, music gives life and so does donating blood,” said Charlotte Moccia, donor recruitment representative at the Red Cross of Greater Kansas City. “It’s not the Red Cross that needs your donation; it’s a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker who is counting on blood being on the hospital shelves.” The Red Cross will raffle off the Lynyrd Skynyrd Second Helping platinum album in July.
