American Red Cross canvases community with fire safety information after three die in house fire
Red Cross volunteers along with Kansas City firefighters went door-to-door providing fire safety information in memory of Dola Mae Dansby, Patrick Mosley and Trenice Soward. Three people who died in a house fire at 3007 Askew on Jan. 3.
The neighborhood campaign alerted neighbors to the Red Cross’ free smoke alarm program and how to create a home exit drill. A pamphlet, “Helping Children Cope with Disaster,” was also distributed. The Red Cross expects to reach about 200 homes in the area surrounding the fatal fire.
On Thursday, Jan. 3, 81-year-old Dola Mae Dansby, her grandson Patrick Mosley, 26, and his girlfriend Trenice Soward, 35, died in the fire at 3007 Askew. According to fire investigators the house did not have smoke alarms.
Having working smoke alarms and practicing an exit drill can help save lives during a fire. It is part of the mission of the Red Cross to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
