Red Cross volunteers head out to help as Hurricane Dolly bears down on Texas

KANSAS CITY, Mo – Five American Red Cross volunteers from the metro area have left for San Antonio, Texas, to provide aid for residents impacted by Hurricane Dolly. From there, they will be deployed to the communities further south.

Four volunteers drove two Emergency Response Vehicles from the Greater Kansas City and Wyandotte County chapters. They will be responsible for carrying meals into areas that need them. The fifth volunteer flew and will be helping with sheltering those who have been evacuated.

The Red Cross is also putting other volunteers on standby in case more help is requested as the hurricane marches further inland.

These brave men and women will be sacrificing 14 to 21 days of their own lives to help others through a difficult time, and our thoughts and wishes for a safe and successful mission go with them.

The volunteers are expected to arrive in San Antonio Thursday afternoon.
