Lifeguarding/Aquatic Programs Lifeguarding programs provide an opportunity for participants to engage in personal and professional development. They are challenged with physical skills and learn how to evaluate a variety of situations and make rational, sensible and safe decisions. In addition to acquiring valuable job skills, lifeguards develop a sense of pride and accomplishment in completing the training.
In today's aquatic environment, lifeguards face a host of new challenges such as infectious diseases, medical waste, increased skin cancer risk, crowd control, violence, new technologies and environmental issues. More and more facilities are adding waterpark attractions, which greatly increase attendance and the need for vigilant water supervision. Medical research has also demonstrated the effectiveness of intervention through defibrillation and oxygen. Increased levels of education, training and preventive measures are all used by today's lifeguard professionals to meet these challenges.
The American Red Cross offers a variety of open enrollment training opportunities. Our Lifeguard Management Services offers full-service aquatic training and counseling services for aquatic organizations.
