Additional Aquatic Courses

The American Red Cross Greater Kansas City Chapter can provide additional Aquatic Services at your request. Below are some of the more commonly requested services:

Waterfront Lifeguard Training: To teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies both in a pool and at a waterfront environment. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries.

Shallow Water Attendant Training: To teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 4 feet deep. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries in shallow water. This course is not intended for the shallow part of an area or attraction that also has deeper water.

Basic Water Rescue: To provide individuals such as public safety personnel, aquatic fitness instructors and aquatic therapists, with information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course will also prepare individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others.

GuardStart: American Red Cross GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow is a program for youth (11-14 years of age) that provides a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes and skills for future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguarding courses. This courses focuses on the ideas stressed in the lifeguarding course including professionalism, leadership, fitness, and decision making. This is an ideal course for day camps, middle schools, and other community youth organizations. Instructors are not required to be Certified Red Cross instructors.

Lifeguard Management: To provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage lifeguards and to create an environment that keeps patrons, lifeguards and the aquatic facility safe. Great course for upcoming or current management, along with providing useful tools to supervisors new in the aquatics world.

Safety Training for Swim Coaches: To provide training in aquatic safety for competitive swim coaches and officials, athletic trainers, athletes participating in aquatic activities, aquatic exercise trainers, and other individuals involved in aquatic competition or exercise programs.

FREE! Splash is a cool drop of water who can entertain as well as teach children important safety tips in and around water. Children, ages 3-12, participate in fun, interactive lessons with Splash including warm or cold water safety activities. Splash is also great for Health & Safety fairs, youth groups, and large facility events. Splash is the official Water Safety Mascot of the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross.
